Salem Hunter was raised in Long Beach, California before heading to New York for college. They attended Sarah Lawrence College, graduating in 2021 with a Bachelor's Degree. Their focuses were primarily in Ecology, Microbiology, and Botany. During their time at Sarah Lawrence, they worked in the ecology lab with the Center for the Urban River at Beczak to determine the source of the high levels of enterococcus in the Hudson and Saw Mill Rivers. They also took a leading role on the laboratory side of a project under Dr. Michelle Hersh looking at how fragmentation affects fungal diversity. Salem is passionate about equal-opportunity education for all ages and diversities, climate activism, and finding ways to include art in STEM and STEM in art.?
