Research Expertise and Interest
Interdisciplinary Capital Markets Research, macro-accounting

Research Description
Panos’ research focuses on capital markets research in accounting and finance and informs questions related to (i) financial statement analysis and corporate valuation, (ii) cross-industry economic links and value creation along the supply chain, (iii) the properties of financial accounting data and financial reporting practices, (iv) forecasting and nowcasting economic activity using financial accounting data, and (v) the measurement of economic activity in the national income and product accounts. Panos’ research interests overlap with his teaching at Berkeley-Haas and his MBA course on Financial Information Analysis has proven to be an invaluable source of ideas that are relevant to academics and practitioners.
Panos has received several prestigious research and teaching awards including the Distinguished Teaching Award of U.C. Berkeley, which is the highest award bestowed by the Chancellor of U.C. Berkeley for outstanding and meritorious teaching at the Berkeley campus, the Notable Contributions to Accounting Literature Award of the American Accounting Association and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the Earl F. Cheit Outstanding Teaching Award (three times, for 2012, 2015, and 2017), which is the highest teaching award bestowed upon instructors by the MBA students at Berkeley-Haas, and the 2013 Hellman Fellows Award, which is bestowed by the Chancellor of U.C. Berkeley for excellence in research. Panos has been selected as the World’s Top 40 Under 40 Business School Professor by Poets & Quants and as the Top 10 Business School Professor under 40 by Fortune.
