Research Description
Kristen Whissel received her Ph.D from Brown University. Her research focuses on computer-generated images and contemporary cinema, digital cinema/video, the theory and history of special effects, new media, American modernity in early cinema, American film history, American film genres, war and cinema. Her books include Picturing American Modernity: Traffic, Technology, and the Silent Cinema (Duke UP, 2007) and ?Spectacular Visual Effect: CGI?and Contemporary Cinema (Duke UP, 2012). She is currently writing a book on stereoscopic 3D cinema titled, "Parallax Effects: the Sublime, the Uncanny and Stereoscopic 3D Cinema."?She has published articles in Film Quarterly, Cinema Journal, Camera Obscura, Journal of Visual Culture, and Screen.
