Research Description
David Lieberman joined the Boalt faculty in 1984. In 2000 he was appointed associate dean of the Jurisprudence and Social Policy (JSP) program. Before coming to Berkeley, he was a research fellow at St. Catharine's College, Cambridge, and then served as fellow and director of studies in history at Christ's College, Cambridge.
Lieberman is a recipient of fellowships for research in legal history from the Institute of Historical Research and the American Bar Foundation. He was an honorary research fellow of the Department of History at University College, London in 1986, a visiting professor at the University of Chicago Law School in 1994, and a fellow at the Center for Advanced Study in Behavioral Sciences in 1995-96. His book, The Province of Legislation Determined: Legal Theory in Eighteenth Century Britain, received honorable mention for the 1990 British Council Prize.
