　　1975 - 1979 Studies of Biology at the University of Goettingen

　　1980 - 1983 Ph. D in the laboratory of Professor Schlegel at the University of Goettingen

　　1985 One year Research fellowship at the Rockefeller University in New York (USA)

　　1991 Habilitation at the University of Goettingen

　　August 1992 Visiting Professor at the University of Buenos Aires

　　since 1994 Full Professor of Microbiology and Director of the institute of microbiology, University Münster

　　2002 – 2005 Dean of the faculty of Biology of University Münster

　　since 2011 Second affiliation: Distinguished Adjunct Professor to King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia)

　　Approximately 380 original publications plus 80 reviews in peer-reviewed international journals plus about 60 books edited. About 440 contributions (invited lectures or short oral contributions) to national and international meetings or to seminars at universities and at industry; about 340 poster presentations at national and international meetings.
