以俯冲带的构造特征及演化为主要研究方向。综合地震学、构造地质学、大地构造学等多学科研究方法,针对西太平洋俯冲带和中国中央造山带开展深入研究,围绕俯冲带大地震触发机制、地幔楔内部过程、板块俯冲-折返历程三方面关键科学问题取得了一些创新认识。已累计发表相关SCI论文48篇,其中第一作者15篇(www.researchgate.net/profile/Xin_Liu60)。主持国家自然科学基金青年科学基金项目1项,参与国家自然科学基金项目3项。代表性SCI论文如下:
