主讲人简介:
Jin-Pei Cheng is the professor of Tsinghua University and Nankai University. He received undergraduate education at Tianjin Normal University (1972-1975), granted M.Sc. degree from Nankai University (1981) and Ph.D. degree from Northwestern University, USA (1987). In 2001, he was elected as the member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Third World Academy of Sciences.
Prof. Cheng’s research focuses primarily on bond energy studies in solution and their applications in untangling complicated problems found in organic chemistry. His systematic work in the field of bond energetics has yielded significant influence on promoting innovative researches in this area. Under his leadership, the internet-bond-energy-databank (iBonD) was established in 2016, which is free of charge for non-profit academic use and has received worldwide reputation. Prof. Cheng has co-authored over 300 papers in peer-reviewed journals. He was rewarded the Ho Leung Ho Lee Science and Technology Progress Award (2005), and the Physics Organic Chemistry Achievement Award of China Chemical Society (2013).
讲座内容简介:
Bond energies play an important role in advancing chemistry to become a more rational science, as evident from widespread applications of many linear free energy relationships (LFERs). As the reaction systems handled nowadays become more complicated, a conventional use of these one-dimensional LFERs in analyzing intricate situations often find problems. It points out a definite need for bond energies relevant to reactions but still unknown. And a more cogitative use of the existing energetic data is also needed. Examples are presented here to illustrate the potential of “multi-dimensional application” of the bond energies for reaction analysis.
Among various bond cleavage energies, the equilibrium acidity (pKa) should be the most important and best accessible energetic data, which also provide the basis for evaluating other bond energies (i.e. BDE). However, no absolute pKa scale was established in the emerging ionic liquid (IL) until recently. Some of our works in this connection, especially the insights found behind pKa in ILs will also be briefed.
