Title: Ramanome: a new type of single-cell phenome big-data
Abstract:
A ramanome is the collection of single-cell Raman spectra (SCRS) acquired from individual cells within an isogenic population (ramanome) or consortium (metaramanome). Obtaining the ramanome can be non-destructive to the cell and does not require external labeling or preexisting biomarkers. Moreover it can be measured and monitored with high throughput and low cost. Furthermore, as each individual Raman peak or combination of peaks in an SCRS can potentially describe a phenotype, the number of states or functions that can be described by a ramanome is very large. In fact, just as a 1500-pixel digital portrait photo provides a combination of many features, multiple cellular functions can be unveiled simultaneously. Finally and importantly, genotype can be linked to phenotype at single-cell resolution via Raman-activated Cell Sorting. Thus, ramanome can serve as a new type of single-cell phenome big data for both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells.

Biography:
XU Jian was born in Zhang zhou, Fujian, China in 1976. He obtained B.S in Biotechnology from Peking University in 1997, and M.S. in Computer Science and PhD in Biochemistry from Washington University in St. Louis in 2003. After serving as Research Instructor at Genome Institute of Washington University, he joined Qingdao Institute of BioEnergy and Bioprocess Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2008 and has been the founding Director of Single-Cell Center, CAS-QIBEBT.The Center has been developing a new generation of single-cell analysis instruments. Via these innovative research tools,Jian and his colleagues are delineating and designing key metabolic processes, such as microalgal oil production, cellulose conversion and human-microbe symbiosis, at the single-cell level.He has published over 60 research papers on leading journals such as Science, PLoS Biology, PLoS Genetics, Plant Cell,PNAS, Biotech Adv, ISME J,Biotech Biofuels,Anal Chem, Lab Chip etc, with the total number of citations exceeding 2000. He has won a number of prestigious career awards from NSFC, MOST and CAS, including the National Distinguished Young Investigator Award (2014, NSFC).

徐健,中国科学院青岛生物能源与过程所研究员、所长助理、单细胞中心主任,兼任所学术委员会主任。1976年10月出生于福建漳州,1997年北京大学生物技术学士,2003年华盛顿大学计算机科学硕士和生物化学博士。2004-08年于华盛顿大学遗传学系和基因组研究院任基因型组装和分析团队负责人。2008年入选中科院“****”并全职加入中科院青岛生物能源与过程所。单细胞中心团队由来自基因组学、微流控科学和生物信息学等交叉背景的近60位工作人员和研究生组成。我们主要通过单细胞分析仪器系列(拉曼组分析仪、单细胞拉曼分选仪、单细胞培养仪等)、拉曼组/元拉曼组等单细胞表型采集方法学和大数据挖掘工具等的研制,开发服务于精准诊断和精准护理的创新解决方案。获首届中组部****青年拔尖人才(2012)、科技部中青年科技创新领军人才推进计划(2013)、国家杰出青年基金(2014)、中国青年科技奖(2015)、“徐健科技领军人才工作室”(山东省科技厅;2016)、中源协和生命医学创新突破奖(2016)等荣誉。论文发表于Science、Cell Host Microbe、Nature Commu.、PNAS、 Mol Plant、Plant Cell、PLoS Biol、PLoS Genetics、ISME J等90余篇,他引6200余次。
