讲座内容:
Over the past few years the automobile and technology industries have made significant leaps in bringing computerization and automation to car driving. Autonomous Vehicles (AVs) have the potential to fundamentally altertransportation systems by dramatically reducing crashes; assisting traffic flows; reducing travel time, energy consumption, and CO2 emissions; providing critical mobility to the elderly and disabled; and increasing road capacity. This research proposes to study the architecture and privacy issues related to autonomous vehicle sharing (AVS) that will revolutionize our transportation experience by providing novel time-sharing and ride-sharing services. Time-sharing services allow AVs to be shared by different users at non-overlapping time periods, while ride-sharing services allow AVs to be shared by users taking similar trips during the same time period. With autonomous driving techniques, the quality of both services will be significantly enhanced to benefit commuters. However, the dramatic change in the communication and management of these services is not risk free. To our knowledge, existing privacy-preserving techniques cannot be applied effectively and efficiently in AVS due to problems and requirements unique to AVS, e.g., location- and time- sensitive trips and multi-user coordination. In this talk, we will address the unique privacy problems raised by AVS. First, we design privacy-preserving task matching schemes for the time-sharing service to determine the minimum number of AVs needed to accomplish a set of tasks; and improve the privacy-preserving schemes in terms of reducing computation and communication overhead, coping with trip delays due to unexpected traffic conditions, and estimating the costs of transitional trips. Second, we design privacy-preserving trip searching schemes for the ride-sharing service without disclosing the routes and locations; enable routes matching when they are in close proximity and/or when they partially match; apply users' social preferences in the route search; and allow users to define the privacy-level of their routes.
