宋铮，1975年8月出生，现为香港中文大学经济系教授、芝加哥大学布斯商学院经济学副教授。2005年获瑞典斯德哥尔摩大学经济学博士。曾任教于复旦大学。研究方向为宏观经济学、政治经济学和中国经济，论文发表于American Economic Review和Econometrica等期刊，兼任Journal of European Economic Association副主编和China Economic Review编委、客座主编。论文《Growing like China》获2013年孙冶方经济科学奖。
内容提要：Shadow banking in China has grown very rapidly during the past decade. This paper studies the causes and impending consequences. We begin by documenting important differences in the cross-section of Chinese banks to isolate the regulatory triggers for shadow banking. We then build a model that rationalizes the facts and use it to conduct policy experiments. We find that asymmetric competition between banks is both a short-run stabilizer and a long-run risk, with new regulations potentially exacerbating the tipping point.
