讲座主要内容：
一系列实验已经开始表明，经验丰富的译者往往以有别于翻译新手的方式从事翻译工作，具体体现在以下几个方面：更多地将注意力放在目标文本上，更多地聚焦于那些风险高的因素上，较少地平均分配其认知焦点，较少地利用编制的参考文献、客户提供的说明书等等。这些研究成果颇有意义，因为理论上讲它们给出了一份在译员培训时需要特别注意的事项清单。然而，仔细琢磨一下这些研究，会发现事实上存在着一些有趣的逆流现象：虽然多数研究者一直努力证明五花八门的功能主义翻译方法如何有效，但是，不少数据表明，经验丰富的译者往往采用直译法。本讲座将探讨这一矛盾，特别是与译员培训相关的方面，以说明翻译培训的目的也许不在于教会大家遵循翻译老手的套路，而在于鼓励大家按“应该的”方式行事。
A series of experiments have started to show the ways in which experienced translators work differently from inexperienced translators: more attention to the target text, greater focus on high-risk elements, a more uneven distribution of cognitive attention, lesser use of documentation, incorporation of the client’s instructions, and so on. These findings are of interest because they could, in theory, give us a list of the things we should be training translators in. Close attention to the research nevertheless suggests that there are some interesting counter-currents: whereas most of the researchers have sought to demonstrate the validity of various functionalist approaches to translation, some of the data suggest that experienced translators work in quite a literalist way. This contradiction will be explored in relation to the role of training, which may not be to reproduce what experienced translators do, but to encourage what they should do.
