主讲人简介:

裴季鲲博士毕业于美国伊利诺大学香槟校区。毕业后曾任职于美国IBM Watson Research Center,担任IBM 高效能电脑设计工作 。之后曾回台湾清华大学电子计算机系,工程研究院计算机研究所任职。自1994年起,裴季鲲博士任教于弗罗里达大学电子计算机学系並担任研究所主任。

n Organization of a PC system – Introduction of the basic architecture organization of a computer system

n Multi-core Processor Organization – Due to memory wall, low power requirement and complexity of high-performance processor design, industry has moved to put multiple cores in a single die. We will discuss the details on Intel multi-core processors

n Processors in Smart Phones – Processors are used everywhere. We will describe the detailed design of several smart phones including iPhone, Galaxy, and HTC, with the emphasis on the processor, storage, OS, and a few other aspects.

n Processors in Game Consoles – New computer game consoles are used high-performance multi-core CPU and GPU integrated in a single chips made by AMD. We will compare PS4 and Xbox One in our talk.

n Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) – GPU has been used by both graphics applications as well as high-performance computing. We will introduce the concept and organization of GPUs.
内容提要:

Processor is the brain of a computer system. Traditionally, personal computers as well as large-scale scientific and commercial systems are the main applications. However, processors are everywhere in today’s high-tech society including PCs, tablets, smart phones, computer games, graphics, commercial data centers, cloud computing centers, warehouse-scale computers, on-line search engines, scientific supercomputers, as well as embedded in electronic equipment, network and communication, household appliances, cars, medical equipment, etc. In this talk, we will introduce the basic computer organization. We will also describe the processor architectures used in other applications.
