Tyler Cowen is anAmericaneconomist, academic, and writer. He occupies the Holbert C. Harris Chair ofeconomicsas a professor atGeorge Mason Universityand is co-author, withAlex Tabarrok, of the popular economicsblogMarginal Revolution. Cowen and Tabarrok have also ventured intoonline educationby startingMarginal Revolution University.He currently writes the "Economic Scene" column for theNew York Times, and he also writes for such publications asThe New Republic, theWall Street Journal,Forbes,Newsweek, and theWilson Quarterly. Cowen also serves as general director of George Mason'sMercatus Center, a universityresearch centerthat focuses on themarket economy. In February 2011, Cowen received a nomination as one of the most influential economists in the last decade through a survey byThe Economist. He was ranked #72 among the "Top 100 Global Thinkers" in 2011 byForeign Policy Magazine, "for finding markets in everything".
