主讲人简介：
Tony Cai is the Dorothy Silberberg Professor of Statistics at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He is the recipient of the 2008 COPSS Presidents' Award, a fellow of the IMS, and was a Co-Editor of The Annals of Statistics. He received his Ph.D. from Cornell University in 1996 and his current research interests include big data, high dimensional statistics, functional data analysis, large-scale multiple testing, nonparametric function estimation, and statistical decision theory. He is also interested in applications to financial engineering, compressed sensing, and genomics.
内容提要：
The explosive growth of Big Data brings significant challenges and potentials to a wide range of fields, from business to medicine to information technology. It also creates tremendous opportunities for statistics. The emergence of data science promises to revolutionize industries from business to health care to government, and to change how we work, live and communicate. In this non-technical talk, I will discuss a few interesting problems to illustrate the potential benefits of Big Data and the demand for statistics in the age of Big Data. The high demand for data scientists requires substantially expansion of statistics programs in leading universities.
