Abstract：In this presentation, a discussion and illustration of how a great idea in one field of mathematics (in this case the Tutte polynomial in graph theory) leads to great results in another area of mathematics (knot theory in this case) will be presented.

Diao Yuanan 教授，北卡萝莱纳大学夏洛特分校数学与统计系系主任，1990年于佛罗里达州立大学获博士学位。Diao教授的主要研究兴趣包括纠结理论，几何拓扑，微分方程，分析等。Diao 教授已在国际著名学术期刊发表学术论文60多篇，并多次获美国国家自然科学基金资助，并受邀到多个国家做学术宣讲。Diao教授是美国数学会会员，美国国家自然科学基金评审专家与多个国际著名学术期刊的审稿专家。
