Thesis: Dynamic Difficulty Adjustment in Competitive Multiplayer Video Games
Synopsis of Research:
The balance between user skill and the challenge provided by a task is necessary for high intrinsic motivation and optimal player experience. My research has focused on modifying Dynamic Difficulty Adjustment (traditionally singleplayer-only) to competitive multiplayer video games in which challenge is provided by opposing players. This has included the creation and testing of a framework for the design and classification of these features, as well as establishing the effect on the player experience and behaviours. This allows for industry-focused outcomes to allow for the better design and analysis of Multiplayer Dynamic Difficulty Adjustment features.
