内蒙古农业大学动物科学学院于2009年12月8日成立。根据内蒙古农业大学党委【2009】14号文件,撤销原动物科学与医学学院,分设动物科学学院和兽医学院。动物科学与医学学院是原内蒙古农牧学院动物科学系和动物医学系组建而成。内蒙古农牧学院的前身为内蒙古畜牧兽医学院,是1952年11月由河北农学院畜牧兽医系、山西农学院畜牧兽医组和平原农学院畜牧兽医组组建而成。
学院下设动物遗传育种与繁殖学、动物营养与饲料科学、动物生产与管理学、水产养殖学等4个系。有畜牧学博士后流动站1个,一级学科博士学位授权点1个,有二级学科博士学位授权点2个,二级学科硕士学位授权点3个,专业硕士授权点1个,有动物科学(综合)、动物科学(动物营养方向)、水产养殖学、动物生产类(教改试点专业)等4个本科专业,其中动物科学专业为国家特色专业,有2个专业用蒙汉双语授课,动物科学(动物营养方向)为英汉双语授课。动物遗传育种与繁殖学为国家重点(培育)学科,动物营养与饲料科学、动物遗传育种与繁殖学2个学科为自治区重点学科,《家畜育种学》为国家级精品课程,动物遗传育种教学团队为国家级教学团队,动物遗传育种与繁殖学实验室为自治区重点实验室,动物营养饲料实验室为自治区重点实验室(培育)。学院有良好的校内外实习基地和科学研究基地。目前,学院承担着国家“973”、“863”、科技支撑、重大专项、国家自然科学基金等项目50余项,科研经费达4000余万元。
学院现有教职工71人,其中教授17 人、副教授32人。博士生导师11人,具有博士学位的教师35人,在读博士3人,具有硕士学位教师19人。

College of Animal Science and Animal Medicine was inaugurated through the combination of original Department of Animal Science and Department of Animal Veterinary Medicine in April, 1999. A broad range of study programmes are offered that closely correspond with major research issues related to areas of animal nutrition and feed science, animal breeding and reproduction, animal production and management, basic veterinary medicine , clinic veterinary medicine and preventive veterinary medicine, and two of them are taught both in Mongolian and Chinese language. Animal breeding and reproduction is state-level discipline, and other disciplines are regional-levels. The college is endowed with one scientific research station for post-doctorate research, two first-level and six second-level in area of animal science and medicine disciplines authorized to grant PhD degrees, seven second-level and two professional disciplines that confer Master degrees. In addition, animal breeding and livestock pathology credit to state-top- and regional-top-level courses. Laboratories of animal breeding and reproduction and basic veterinary medicine are nominated as provincial-level key laboratories. Affiliated branches include animal hospital, experimental animal house and animal metabolizing research bases.
Currently, the college has 141 staff members, including 40 professors, 55 associate professors and 22 doctorate supervisors, among whom those with doctor degrees come up to 55, and those with master degrees amount to 45. At present, college is undertaking 69 state- and regional-level research projects and gained more than 50 scientific rewards.
