Abstract: Ischemia/reperfusion injury causes various organ tissue damage. The reperfusion of blood flow restores oxygen supply and is currently recognized in ischemic tissues or organs that are commonly affected in coronary heart disease, shock, stroke, acute kidney injury, cardiopulmonary bypass, and organ transplantation. Circular RNA, a novel class of non-coding RNA, is involved in the pathogenesis of various diseases. However, the molecular mechanisms of ischemia/reperfusion-induced acute tissue injury and the damage chronicity still remain unclear. In this review, we summarize the published research articles related to circular RNAs in ischemia/reperfusion-induced injury and highlight the novel molecular mechanisms of circular RNAs in its onset and progression.
