Abstract: Objective To investigate the relationship between uric acid (UA) and H-type hypertension (HHT) in Hunan Province and provide scientific evidence for the community prevention of H-type hypertension. Methods A random cluster sampling method was used to investigate the data of patients with hypertension in six regions of Hunan Province from 2013 to 2014. Baseline data mainly included homocysteine (Hcy), UA, total cholesterol (TC), and triglyceride (TG). The study participants were divided into four groups according to the UA concentration:A: ≤ 252.00 μmol/L (reference), B:>252.00-316.50 μmol/L, C:>316.50-376.25 μmol/L, and D:>376.25 μmol/L. The baseline data of the study participants were compared between different Hcy and UA groups. After age-based stratification, logistic regression analysis was used to determine the correlation between UA levels and HHT. Results This study included 1 538 hypertensive patients with an average age of 59 years, of which 85.24% were HHT patients. There were significant differences in age, sex, smoking, UA, creatinine (Cr), TG, apolipoprotein B (ApoB), C-reactive protein (CRP), and fasting blood glucose (FBG) between ordinary hypertension and HHT. The differences in sex, smoking, drinking, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), Cr, TG, TC, low density lipoprotein (HDL-C), apolipoprotein A (ApoA), ApoB, FBG, and Hcy in the different UA groups were significant (all P < 0.05). Adjusted odds ratios for the association of UA and HHT were 1.048, 1.266, and 1.707 after age stratification, comparing with the first UA group among patients < 60 years old. Adjusted odds ratios for the association of the different quartiles of UA and HHT were 1.465, 4.659, 2.052 and 4.278 in the four groups among participants ≥ 60 years old. Conclusion Uric acid was associated with H-type hypertension, and this association was more obvious in hypertensive patients ≥ 60 years of age.
