Abstract: Objective To investigate the regulatory effect of camel milk on intestinal mucosal immune function in oxazolone-induced colitis in mice. Methods The colitis model was constructed using 3% oxazolone ethanol solution for skin sensitization and 1% oxazolone ethanol solution by enema in male BALB/c mice. The mice were fed daily with camel milk in the experimental group (n=20) and with double steamed water in the control group (n=20). The body weight and disease activity index in mice were recorded. Flow cytometry,enzyme-linked immune sorbent assay,and real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR were used to test changes in colon immune cell function. Results Compared with the control group,the mice in the experimental group showed a slow weight loss and decreased disease activity index. Furthermore,an increased proportion of the lymphocytes CD4+ CD25+ T cells and CD4+ IFN-γ+ T cells in the colon mucosa lamina propria was exhibited in the experimental group,whereas the proportion of CD4+ IL-17+ T cells decreased. The concentration of interleukin (IL)-17,IL-4,and IL-13 in the cell culture supernatant decreased,whereas that of IFN-γ increased in the experimental group. Conclusion Camel milk may alleviate oxazolone-induced colitis in mice by regulating T cell proliferation and differentiation and cytokine secretion.
