Abstract: The incidence of obesity-related glomerular nephropathy (ORG) is increasing,along with the increasing prevalence of obesity worldwide. Non-nephrotic proteinuria is the main clinical manifestation of ORG;ORG eventually progresses to end-stage renal disease. The pathological manifestations are characterized by glomerular hypertrophy or focal segmental glomerular sclerosis. Researchers have shown that the incidence of ORG is closely related to chronic inflammatory responses,oxidative stress,the activation of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system,and insulin resistance. Thioredoxin-interacting protein (Txnip) is a major component of a multiprotein complex that promotes oxidative stress and plays an important role in a variety of inflammatory processes. This article will review the research progresses on Txnip and obesity-related glomerulopathy.
