Abstract: Adrenomedullin (ADM) is a common vascular peptide belonging to the calcitonin gene-related peptide family. It is widely expressed in multiple organs;however,under normal conditions,its expression is most abundant in the adrenal medulla. Vascular smooth muscle cells,particularly vascular endothelial cells,are the primary sources of ADM. ADM plays diverse roles via complicated mechanisms. It is associated with various diseases such as tumor and hypertension and has great research value. Many studies have confirmed the regulatory effects of ADM on mitochondria and reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels in cells. This paper presents a review of the effects of ADM on mitochondria and ROS levels.
