Abstract: Objective To investigate the effect of autophagy-related gene 4A(ATG4A) overexpression on epithelial-mesenchymal transformation(EMT) in lens epithelial cells. Methods An overexpression ATG4A(OE-ATG4A) group was created by transfecting ATG4A plasmid into lens epithelial cells,and a negative control(NC) group was created by transfecting a blank vector plasmid into lens epithelial cells. To analyze EMT level in both groups,quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction and Western blotting analyses were performed. The levels of reactive oxygen species(ROS) in both groups were also evaluated. Results EMT was significantly upregulated in the OE-ATG4A group compared to NC group(P<0.05);however,ROS levels did not statistically differ between the groups(P>0.05). Conclusion ATG4A can promote EMT level in lens epithelial cells.
