1976年毕业于中国医科大学医疗系；1981年中国医科大学内分泌学专业毕业，获医学硕士学位；1988年在英国剑桥大学留学两年。1994年在加拿大多伦多大学留学一年；1994年晋升为教授；1995年被遴选为博士生导师；1995年被评选为享受国务院特殊津贴国家级专家；1995年任中国医科大学附属第一医院副院长，1997年任中国医科大学副校长，2001年任中国医科大学校长；2001年任中国医科大学内分泌研究所所长。辽宁省甲状腺疾病重点实验室主任。
研究方向简介　　
滕卫平教授现任第八届中华医学会内分泌学分会侯任主任委员、中国甲状腺学会主席、亚大地区甲状腺学会副主席、《中华内分泌代谢杂志》副主编。主要从事甲状腺疾病的基础和临床研究工作，先后承担科技部十五科技攻关、863基金、国家自然科学基金等多项国家级项

2001年和2004年任中华医学会内分泌学分科学会第六届、第七届委员会副主任委员，全国甲状腺学组组长；2008年任中华医学会内分泌学分科学会第九届委员会候任主任委员；2012年任中华医学会内分泌学分科学会第九届委员会主任委员；2015年任前任主任委员2001年以来美国甲状腺学会委员。美国内分泌学会委员，亚太地区甲状腺学会委员，辽宁省内分泌学会主任委员，美国《甲状腺》杂志编委，《中华内分泌代谢杂志》副主编。
所获荣誉　　　
滕卫平教授从1980起从事甲状腺疾病的基础和临床的研究，主要研究方向包括碘过量对甲状腺疾病的影响，自身免疫甲状腺疾病，妊娠与甲状腺疾病，Graves病的遗传易感基因等。在国内外核心期刊发表学术论文200余篇，其代表性论著发表在美国《新英格兰医学杂志》。先后承担国家科技攻关课题、863课题、国家公益性课题、国家自然科学基金课题、美国中华医学会课题10余项，获得科研资金2000余万元。2007年，《碘过量对甲状腺疾病影响的流行病学和实验研究》荣获国家科技进步二等奖。
