Sevket Durucan is the Professor of Mining and Environmental Engineering in the Department of Earth Science and Engineering, Royal School of Mines, Imperial College London. He holds a BSs and MSc in Mining Engineering from the Middle East Technical University in Turkey and a PhD in Mining Engineering from the University of Nottingham in the UK.

Professor Durucan’s main research interests include mineral resources production, environment and clean coal and energy technologies. He set up the Minerals, Energy and Environmental Engineering Research Group at Imperial College and established it as an international centre of excellence on mining engineering, coalbed methane, enhanced coalbed methane, underground coal gasification and CO₂storage technologies. He has coordinated/contributed to a number of high profile national and international research projects. ProfessorDurucan serves as editorial board member for three international journals and he has published more than 100 SCI papers with total SCI citations over 1700 times.
