Justin Jeong Hoon Kim, 男高音

Justin Jeong Hoon Kim, Tenor

A native of Korea, tenor Justin Jeong Hoon Kim was born in Seoul, Korea. Jeong Hoon Kim finished his doctorate degree at Arizona State University with David Britton in U.S. He received his master’s degree at the North Carolina School of Arts, studying with Glenn Siebert, and undergraduate degree at the Korea National University of Arts in Seoul, Korea, studying with In Soo Baek. He also has a diploma at Viterbo international opera course in Viterbo, Italy. He has performed as soloist with many orchestras throughout the Korea, Asia and United States including the Hanmi Orchestra, Prima Orchestra, Seoul Symphony, New Seoul Philharmonic, Winston-Salem Symphony and West Valley Symphony. He has won the first prize in Music Journal and Leedaewoong competition in Korea, first prize in Arizona Opera League competition, Metropolitan Opera Competition in NC District and third prize in Opera Guild Competition in Charlotte. He was a soloist in Gounod’s Messe Solennelle de Sainte Cecile, Stainers Crucifixion, Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, Handel’s Messiah and Dettingen Te Deum, Mozart’s Coronation Mass, Bruckner’s Te Deum and Bach’s B minor Mass. He has performed operatic roles the ‘Nemorino’ in Elisir D’amore, ‘Arturo’ in Lucia di Lammermoor, ‘Gastone’ in La Traviata, ‘Remendado’ in Carmen, ‘Kimchul’ in Opera Backbum Kim Gu and The Korean Provisional Government, ‘Gilbo’ in Spring, ‘Aufide’ in Moses, ‘Orlando’ in Orlando Paladino, ‘Anichino’ in Beatrice di Tenda, ‘Tamino’ in Magic Flute, ‘Le Chavalier’ in The Dialogue of the Carmelites, ‘Don Ottavio’ in Don Giovanni, and ‘Imperatore’ in Il vestito nuovo dell'Imperatore.

He also had performed various opera scenes in Don Pasquale, Macbeth and Rigoletto. In addition to his successes, Dr. Kim has been performing concerts in more than 40 cities in Korea and United States (include New York, San Francisco, San Diego, Los Angeles, San Jose, Sacramento, Pittsburgh, Washington DC, Baltimore, Greensboro and Tampa Bay).

Dr. Kim is teaching various students in Korea National University of the Arts, HanSei University, Kyonghee University, and Baek Suk University of the Arts since 2008.

Maxim Mogilevsky / piano

Having impressed audiences worldwide with his fiery performances and distinctive interpretations, Maxim Mogilevsky made his debut at age thirteen with the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra to widespread acclaim. Since that time he has gone on to perform as a soloist with major orchestras around the world, and has undertaken many unique artistic projects. Called by The Washington Post “…a pianist with distinctive personality, outstanding technique, and an inclination to stamp his own imprint on whatever he plays,” Mogilevsky has become a favorite of musicians and audiences worldwide.
Highlights of his 2013-15 seasons include a two months-long tour of South America with the St. Petersburg State Symphony, as well as an appearance as a featured artist at the Russian National Orchestra Festival, where he presented a collaborative project with four ballerinas from the Mariinsky Ballet performing Tchaikovsky’s “The Seasons.” Maxim has also performed at the Red Sea Gergiev Festival in Israel, the Great Hall of the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, and in recital in Los Angeles, Miami, Tokyo and Paris. Maxim has opened 2013 Martha Argerich’s “Progetto” Festival in Lugano with a recital. He was also awarded” Golden Mask Award”, together with ballerina Diana Vishneva for the performance of Schoenberg’s “Pierrot Lunaire”, choreographed by Alexei Ratmansky.
Recent orchestral appearances included the New York Philharmonic, Seattle Symphony, Turku Philharmonic, Orchestre National de France, Rotterdam Philharmonic, Mariinsky Orchestra, St Petersburg State Symphony Orchestra, Russian National Orchestra, Orchestra Novaya Rossiya, Moscow Soloists Ensemble, Svetlanov Orchestra (“GASO”) and St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra. Maxim has performed under the batons of internationally renowned conductors, including Seiji Ozawa, Gerard Schwarz, Yuri Bashmet, Mikhail Pletnev, Leif Segerstam and Valery Gergiev. He is coming to Asia as soloist with State Academic Orchestra of Russia (GASO) in May 2017, with performances in Korea, China, Hong Kong and Japan. Along with recital performances on five continents, Maxim’s notable appearances include those at Carnegie Hall, the Kravis Center, Segerstrom Center for the Arts, Dumbarton Oaks, The Edinburgh, Ravinia, RuhrKlavier and Spoleto Festivals.
A recent guest artist at Boston University, Mr. Mogilevsky worked as an Assistant Professor at Oberlin Conservatory from 1996-2001, and as Visiting Assistant Professor at the Eastman School of Music in 2009-10 academic years.
Maxim recently released a recording of the Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No. 3 with Vladimir Lande and the St. Petersburg State Symphony Orchestra for Marquis Records. He was also featured on recordings of Stravinsky’s “Les Noces” with both the Rotterdam Philharmonic and the Mariinsky Orchestra under Valery Gergiev, which received prestigious 2011 International Classical Music Award. He has started teaching at the New England Conservatory as of January 2015. In the summer of 2015 Maxim has organized a piano institute together with Lang Lang Music World at The Summit Music Festival in New York. Later in August 2015 Maxim was a director of the workshop in cooperation with Beijing Central Conservatory and German Goethe Institute in Boston, MA. Maxim as well is piano program director at Yuri Bashmet International Festival and Piano Academy in Samara (Russia) and yearly piano workshops in Kazan, Rostov, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg and Khabarovsk. Under request of Mr. and Mrs. Sherman of NEC, Maxim prepared their student George Li for XV International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in the summer of 2015, where George Li won second prize. Mr. Mogilevsky serves as adjudicator at Kazakhstan International Piano Competition, Lang Lang Competition, Moscow Conservatory International Piano Competition, Sorantin Music Competition in Texas and Tchaikovsky International Junior Competition. He started teaching as guest professor at Tokoha University Music College of Shizuoka, Japan.
