孙建中，男，1958年10月生，美国路易斯安那州立大学博士，昆虫与生物质能源专家。2009年7月，任江苏大学特聘教授。2009年5月任美国华盛顿州立大学兼职教授、美国华盛顿州立大学生物质能源研究领域博士生指导委员会委员。作为海外高层次人才，应邀在北京参加建国60周年国庆观礼活动，受到胡锦涛、温家宝等中央领导同志的亲切接见。现任江苏大学环境学院副院长、江苏大学生物质能源研究所所长。
孙建中教授具有30多年国内外丰富的学习研究工作经历，其中在美国学习工作15年。1990年、1996年，作为高级访问学者，曾先后两次赴美国奥本大学、美国路易斯安那州立大学合作研究；2002—2004年，曾在美国路易斯安那州立大学从事博士后研究，2004—2009年曾任美国密西西比州立大学昆虫系及海岸研究与推广中心助理教授/副教授、博士生导师，招收和指导博士研究生和博士后开展生物质能源方面研究；作为第一主持人，曾主持美国农业部、密西西比州有关白蚁生物学、白蚁防治研究以及美国能源部、交通部“太阳神计划”有关白蚁生物质能源利用研究等多个项目；为美国科学学会、工业微生物学会、昆虫学会会员；曾任美国农业部国家白蚁防治项目专家委员会委员；受邀担任美国2008－2013年第三个五年科技发展计划起草与评议专家、美国农业部重大课题评审专家、美国国家植物生物技术评审委员会生物质能源和环境研究项目评审专家、中国国家自然科学基金评审委员会重大项目海外评审专家；受邀担任7种国际昆虫类、农业类、生物质能源类SCI专业杂志审稿人、编委、特邀主编；曾任美国路易斯安那州立大学中国学者联谊会主席、顾问。
孙建中教授是国际上将白蚁高效生物降解植物木质纤维素特性引入到生物质能源研究中的少数科学家之一。作为发起人和主持人，2008年成功主持美国昆虫学会年会首届“昆虫与生物质能源应用”国际性专题学术研讨会；在昆虫与生物质能源研究方面，主编了国际同行业中第一本研究专刊，（英文版，国际著名出版商Wiley-Blackwell出版），撰写发表了第一篇较为全面的、融合不同学科、反映最新进展的昆虫与生物质能源应用的综述性研究报告（英文版，中国高等教育出版）。共发表各类研究论文、研究报告60多篇，其中有20多篇研究论文在同行业国际顶尖或主流SCI专业刊物上发表，参与或主编3部著作的撰写（中文1部、英文2部），做过20多次应邀国际性学术会议大会发言和40多次国际会议报告。
孙建中教授曾主持中国国家、省级攻关研究项目多项，作为主持人和主要完成人，获江苏省科技进步一等奖2项、二等奖1项，作为主要参加人，获国家科技进步三等奖、农牧渔业部二等奖各1项。
