Withthevirtueofitssymmetryselectivityopticalsecondharmonicgeneration(SHG)isparticularlyattractiveforprobingtheferroelectricstate.Thesecond-ordernonlinearopticalpolarizationisgivenbyP(2w)=c(2)E2(w)withelectricfieldsE(w)oftheincidentlightwaves.Withthesecond-ordersusceptibilityc(2)º0fornoncentrosymmetricsystemsonly,SHGeffectdirectlycouplestothesymmetry-breakingferroelectricorderparameter.Consequently,undertheexternalstimuliconditionssuchas,temperature,pressure,electricfield,strainandmagneticfield,theirdependenceofc(2)becomesmoreandmoreimportanttoadjustwhetherthereexistsasymmetrybreakingoccurrenceornotbecausemostofmolecule-basedcompoundscontainmanyH-atomswhichislesscontributiontoX-raydiffractionandsolvetheirstructurebytheoreticadditionH-atomsinShelxl-97program.Ontheotherhand,mostofferroelectricphasetransitionsinvolvetwincrystal.Thedifferencebetweencentro-andacentro-symmetrystructuresisisotropicbyX-raydiffractionmethod(neutron-diffractionisexceptional).So,thephysicalpropertyanomalynearphasetransitionpoint(especiallytemperature,Tc)isacrucialcriteriontomakeacorrectchoice.Inthispresentation,wemainlyfocusedonthetemperature-dependentc2),piezoelectriccoefficient,anddomains.
