Biography Biography
Prof Ching W Tang received his BS degree from the University of British Columbia and PhD from Cornell University, both in Chemistry.?After graduating from Cornell in 1975, he joined the Kodak Research Laboratories where he began his decades-long research in the field of organic electronics.?He retired from the Eastman Kodak Company in 2006 to join the University of Rochester as the Doris Johns Cherry Professor of Chemical Engineering. He joined the faculty of HKUST in 2013.
Prof Tang?was recognized for the inventions of heterojunction organic solar cells and organic light emitting diodes for which he was awarded the 2011 Wolf Prize in Chemistry, the 2017 IEEE Jun-ichi Nishizawa Medal, and the 2019 Kyoto Prize in Advanced Technology, among others. He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society, a Fellow of the Society for Information Display, a member of US National Academy of Engineering, an inductee of the US National Inventors Hall of fame, and a founding member of the Hong Kong Academy of Science.
