Biography Biography
Mengqian obtained her Bachelor of Engineering (2009) with First class honour and Academic Achievement Medal from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at HKUST and went to Columbia University in the City of New York and obtained her Master of Science (2011), Master of Philosophy (2014) and Doctor of Philosophy (2014) from the Department of Earth and Environmental Engineering. Her research lies in hydrometeorology, water resource and climate risk. Her recent work has been focusing on hydrometeorological extremes (heavy rainfall, floods, tropical cyclones etc.), from atmospheric diagnosis to data-driven prediction, given their social relevance and the advancement of science towards innovative engineering applications. Her research aims to advance our understanding in hydrometeorological extremes around five key research areas, namely Atmospheric River, Moisture recycling network, East Asian monsoon, Extreme weathers and Water resources.
