SIU, King Chung is an art & design commentator, an installation artist, an independent curator and is actively involved in arts policy and art/design curriculum development in Hong Kong. He writes on art, creativity, design, museum and education. He co-organised the 2006 and 2008 Creative Education Summit for the Home Affairs Bureau of HK. His recent research is on “lesser” design, information design, visual culture and museum methods. Since 2002, he has been involving in establishing a creativity-oriented senior secondary school in Hong Kong (www.creativehk.edu.hk/frontpage/eng/indexeng.php)
He produces experimental exhibitions and often participates in local and international creative and visual culture projects. For many years, he has been exploring ways to initiate collaboration among students, teachers, designers and artists through organising exhibitions and publishing projects, such as "The Blackbox Exercise" series (June-Aug. 95, 96, 97, 98, 99 in Osaka, Japan, 2000, in Berlin, Germany) and the "Sentimental Education" series (July 1997 & July 98), which have given him chances to explore and develop possible forms and strategies for exhibition design, installation display, publication design and alternative museum practices.
Curated and co-curated exhibitions also include "Journey to the East' 98" (Jan. 1998) "Designs You Don't Know What to Do With" (Jan.1999, May 2000, June 2002 www.hkcmp.org/cmp/c_002_do_you_know.html), "Home Affairs" (June 1999 www.hkcmp.org/cmp/c_002_home.html) and "Lo Ting: New Discovery on 1197 Massacre" (Aug. 1999), "Cityscapes Reading Guide" (January 2001), “In Search of Anonymous Designers” (2003 www.dydk.com), "Objects of Demonstration" (July 2002; May 2004, in Manchester, UK. www.hkcmp.org/cmp/c_002_object.html) “Street as Museum: Lee Tung Street” (2005 www.hkcmp.org/cmp/c_002_street_lee.html), etc. He is currently working on a series of community projects that endeavour to visualize and disseminate local knowledge and practices in form of exhibitions, publications and cultural tourism, for instances, “In Search of Marginalized Wisdom” (2007 http://www.hkcmp.org/cmp/c_002_craftsman.html), and “Socially Yours: An Alternative Design Networking Seminar” (2007 www.hkcmp.org/socially%5Fyours/) etc…
