    Team member won 2nd place prize in the advanced mathematics contest at Chongqing Jianzhu University, China, 1978
    Selected as one of 60 M.Sc. students and awarded scholarship from the Chinese Academy of Sciences to study overseas for Ph.D. (1986 to 1989)
    Won the U. of Manitoba Grad. Study Fellowship for excellent foreign students – (1989-1990)
    Won a prize and a certificate of honor for one of the best in competition to calculate the settlement of Haarajoki Test Embankment in Helsinki, Finland organized by Finish National Road Administration (11/1999)
    Won “Mao Yi-Sheng Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering Youth Award” (茅以升土力學及基礎工程青年獎) for 2000 in China, awarded in May 2001, Xian China, awarded by “The Mao Yi-Sheng Science Education Fund”
    Honoured to be qualified for “Cheung Kong Specially Appointed Professor” (長江特聘教授) in Mainland China and the first one in the Geotechnical Engineering field in 2001.

    Won IACMAG award entitled "Excellent Contributions Awards: Regional" “for excellent contributions in development and applications of elastic visco-plastic constitutive models, computer methods and testing equipment in geomechanics” in June 2005. International Association for Computer Methods and Advances in Geomechanics (IACMAG).
    Received “John Booker Medal” of IACMAG “for excellent contributions in test study of the nonlinear and time-dependent stress-strain behavior of soils, development and applications of elastic visco-plastic constitutive models, and consolidation analyses” in October 2008, by  International Association for Computer Methods and Advances in Geomechanics (IACMAG).
    Obtained Dean’s Award for Outstanding Achievement in Research Funding from Faculty of Construction and Land Use of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
    Obtained Brussels Innova 2009 Silver for “Multi-GPS Technology”(Prof Xiaoli Ding, Prof Yongqi Chen, Prof Jianhua Yin and Mr Wentao Yang”.
    Selected to give “2011 Huang Wenxi Lecture” (No.14 in series) in April 2011 by Editorial Board of “Chinese Journal of Geotechnical Engineering”. “Huang Wen-Xi Lecture” is the highest ranking lecture in China, which is similar to “Terzaghi Lecture” in USA and “Rankine Lecture” in UK, all in geotechnical engineering.
    Received  “Chandra S. Desai Excellence Award” of IACMAG  “"For excellent contributions in experimental study of the nonlinear and time-dependent stress-strain behavior of soils, development and applications of elastic visco-plastic constitutive models, and innovative development of laboratory testing facilities and optical fibre sensing technologies” in May 2011 by  International Association for Computer Methods and Advances in Geomechanics (IACMAG).
    Received “The Honorable Sh.M. Aitalyev Medal” from President of Kazakhstan Geotechnical Society (KGS), Vice-President of ISSMGE for Asia on 25 May 2011 for “for large-scale achievements and innovations in soil mechanics, rocks and soft soil, geomechanics, underground construction, which had been recognized in Kazakhstan and abroad…”.
    Received “2011 R. M. Quigley Award – Honourable Mention” for your paper entitled “New mixed boundary, true triaxial loading device for testing three-dimensional stress–strain–strength behaviour of geomaterials”, one of 3 best papers published in Canadian Geotechnical Journal (2010).
    Received “2016 the First-class Award in Natural Sciences” from Ministry of Education of China for project “A Unified Hardening Constitutive Modeling Theory for Soils ” (Names: Yao Yangping, Yin Jianhua. Sun Dean, Zhu Jungao) 得到中国教育部2016年度自然科学一等奖， 得奖项目“土的统一硬化本构理论”， 排名：姚仰平，殷建华。 孙德安，周安楠，朱俊高。
