Roine Leiringer is an Associate Professor in the Department of Real Estate and Construction at The University of Hong Kong. He holds an MSc in Civil Engineering and a PhD in Industrial Economics and Management from KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden. In 2010 he was awarded the academic grade Docent at Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden. In research, Roine is committed to critical perspectives. Early research interests were in the areas of Public-Private Partnerships and innovation. Currently much of his research is in the following areas:
The impact of government policy and reform initiatives on firms and actors active in the creation of the built environment;
Sustainability – in particular the impact of Building Environmental Assessment Methods. Focus is on whether their increased use and implementation has had any effect at the industry level, and if they have generated new sustainable practices on projects, within firms and across the industry at large.
BIM – with particular focus on the effect of BIM mandates on contracting SMEs.
Construction client capabilities – what capabilities do public sector clients (owner/operators) need in order to effectively procure and manage their projects?
Roine is joint Editor-in-Chief of Construction Management and Economics and a past Secretary of the Construction Researchers on Economics and Organisation in the Nordic region (CREON) Network. He is a co-founder and co-director of the West Africa Built Environment Research (WABER) conference series and was a joint coordinator of CIB TG 84 on ‘Construction Reform’. He is currently a visiting Professor at Chalmers University of Technology (Gothenburg, Sweden) and was for a period 2011-2016 a Profesor Visitante at Universidad ORT Uruguay (Montevideo, Uruguay).
