Bin Chen is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Landscape Architecture at the University of Hong Kong. Before joining HKU, he was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of California Davis working on a few projects in the areas of urban, agriculture and forest ecosystem monitoring, interactions between vegetation, climate change, human activities, and wildfires. He received a B.S. degree in Geographic Information System from Wuhan University in 2013, and a Ph.D. degree in Global Environmental Change from Beijing Normal University in 2017.
Chen has been broadly trained in geospatial science and environmental science. He is passionate about tackling a range of pressing local, regional and global environmental change challenges using exceptional quantitative, analytical, and computational skills, with the ultimate goal of contributing to a sustainable and healthy world.
Chen’s research interests include most aspects of geoscience and remote sensing, specifically multi-source data-model fusion and geospatial big data analysis in the field of urban and environmental health science, to investigate the interaction loop between environmental change, human activities, and public health. He has published more than 40 journal articles, including Science, PNAS, Remote Sensing of Environment, ISPRS Journal of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, etc. He has served as reviewer for more than 20 SCI journals and guest editor for special issues in Remote Sensing and Land. Dr. Chen received the American Association of Geographers (AAG) Early-Career Award in Remote Sensing in 2021.
