Joined the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts in 2007
Chan Ying Wai’s short film Someone's Running received theBest Film Award (Open Category) in Fresh Wave Short Film Competition 2008 and the Big Wave Award in Fresh Wave Short Film Festival 2009.
His beloved documentary works include Humming in the Journey (2003), whichtraces the inner world of apoet Wordic,and Landscape on the Other Side: Hong Kong Cinematographer Bill Wong (2010), which was shown in a tribute programme dedicated to two master cinematographers in the Hong Kong Film Archive.
Immersed in various disciplinesof arts,he began toexplore thepossibilitiesbetween sound and image in recent years.
In 2013, hisvideoinstallation As Distant As the Starsreceived the Cactus Prize in the Master of Arts in Fine Arts Graduation Exhibition organized by the Department of Fine Arts in the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Besides being a director, he has also served as sound designer in a numberof independent short films.
