Co-Director, Master of Science Program in Epidemiology and Biostatistics, CUHK
Review Editor, Human Genetics

Biography
Dr. Maggie H Wang received her bachelor degree (Hon) in Physics. She obtained her PhD degree in Statistics from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) (advisor: Inchi Hu, Topic: A classification method incorporating interaction effect in high dimensional data). After graduation in 2011, Dr. Wang joined the School of Public Health and Primary Care, the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), first as a Research Assistant Professor, and was promoted to Assistant Professor in 2015 and Associate Professor (tenured) in 2021. She actively collaborates with biomedical scientists, clinical scientists, microbiologists and virologists, while keeping developing new bioinformatics methods to solve problems in genetic datasets. She visited Columbia University in 2009 and Stanford University in 2016 as a visiting scholar. She is the Principal Investigator of General Research Fund (GRF), National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) general projects, and Health and Medical Research Fund (HMRF) in Hong Kong SAR.

Research Interests

Dr. Maggie Wang’s research focus is statistical genetics and bioinformatics with two major areas of application, infectious disease genome and human genome interpretation. In human genome, Wang’s group develops novel statistical methods and tools to identify disease susceptible biomarkers and to improve disease prediction accuracy. In influenza genome research, Wang’s group proposed new methods to bridge genetics and epidemiology and capture viral mutation patterns towards vaccine antigen optimization.
