摘要China's WTO accession has ushered in a wave of reform in its securities industry. The latest initiative is the Qualified Foreign Institutional Investor scheme, which opens up China's domestic securities markets for the first time to institutions overseas. If QFII results in major ownership changes in Chinese enterprises, the nature of corporate governance there will be irrevocably altered, with the US leading the charge for greater transparency and accountability in day-to-day corporate affairs. This article attempts to gauge the impact of this watershed event on three key factors: demand for financial disclosure reform, incentives to comply with disclosure requirements, and incentives to disclose additional information.
