CityU offers more than 50 taught postgraduate programmes in diverse and extensive subject areas to help students pursue their personal interests, professional excellence and career advancement. Students will receive an innovative and in-depth education, mainly in the form of coursework, while some programmes may require the completion of a project or thesis. Programmes may be offered in full-time, part-time or combined mode and generally require one to two years of study, subject to the credit load requirements of individual programmes. All programmes are self-financing except for the Postgraduate Certificate in Laws, on which some government-funded places are available.

General Entrance Requirements

Applicants must satisfy the following University general entrance requirements, as set out below, and the entrance requirements specific to individual programmes.

Applicants for admission to the University’s Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma or Taught Master’s Degree programmes must:

  • hold a bachelor’s degree from one of the universities in Hong Kong or from an overseas institution recognised for this purpose by the University; or
  • hold such other qualifications as deemed acceptable by the University as equivalent to the above.

Note: Final year undergraduate students who will acquire the requisite academic qualification before the commencement of the programme may apply for admission.

English Proficiency Requirements

Applicants whose entrance qualification is obtained from an institution where the medium of instruction is NOT English should also fulfil the following minimum English proficiency requirement:

  • a TOEFL score of 550 (paper-based test) or 59 (revised paper-delivered test) or 79 (Internet-based test) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL); or
  • an overall band score of 6.5 in International English Language Testing System (IELTS); or
  • band 6 in the Chinese mainland’s College English Test*; or
  • other equivalent qualifications.

(Individual Colleges and Schools may stipulate a higher English proficiency requirement, or equivalent acceptable qualifications, suitable for their disciplines.)

* Applicants holding the old CET-6 result must attain a pass in the test. For applicants holding the new CET-6 result, please refer to the CET-6 score requirement for the individual programme in the Programme Information.

    2. Check the general and programme specific entrance requirements.
    3. Observe the application deadline.
    4. Prepare your official supporting documents for upload.
    5. Get a VISA/MasterCard or UnionPay card ready.

      Tips: There is no need to submit your application via an agent.
  1. Create Application Account

    1. Read the notes for applicants.
    2. Create an online application account.
    3. Input your personal information.
    4. Note down your electronic ID (EID), application number and password for future access.

      Tips: Applicants should not create more than one account.
  1. Submit Online Application

    1. Select a programme and fill in the relevant sections.
    2. Upload official documents (e.g. degree award certificate, transcript and English test report, if applicable) and other required documents.
    3. Check that all sections are duly completed.
    4. Read the declaration, pay the application fee for each programme online using a VISA/MasterCard or UnionPay card.
    5. Check the acknowledgement message shown on screen immediately after your online payment has been successful.

      Tips: Submission of supporting documents by email or post will not be accepted.

    1. Check for email acknowledgement to confirm the successful submission of your online application.
    2. Check for email notification to view your offer package via your application account, if the application is successful.
    3. Check for other email(s) from the School or individual academic units, if any.

      Tips: Please ensure your email address is current and will not filter out emails from the University.
  1. Check Application Status

    1. Check your application result online.
    2. Successful applicants will receive an email notification from the University.
    3. View and download your offer letter, notes on offer acceptance and other attachments, if any, from your application account.

      Tips: Please ensure your email address is current and will not filter out emails from the University.
  1. Accept Admission Offer

    1. Read the offer letter and notes on offer acceptance and other attachments, if any, before accepting an offer.
    2. Follow instructions to settle full payment of the acceptance fee before the reply deadline.
    3. Accept your offer online via your application account before the reply deadline.
    4. Check the status change as shown on your application account.
    5. Non-local applicants should submit visa applications.
