刘少军,1962年生,男,博士,二级教授,博士生导师,国家杰出青年科学基金获得者,湖南省“芙蓉学者”特聘教授,湖南省科技领军人才,全国优秀科技工作者,全国优秀教师,教育部跨世纪优秀人才,湖南省优秀中青年专家,国务院政府特殊津贴享受者,湖南省五一劳动奖章获得者;中国水产学会理事,中国海洋湖沼学会理事,湖南省水产学会副理事长,中国水产学会生物技术专业委员会副主任委员,湖南省水产品种审定委员会副主任委员;1998-1999年由国家留学基金委公派到法国从事一年的鱼类分子生物学工作;现任湖南鱼类遗传育种中心主任,蛋白质组学与发育生物学省部共建国家重点实验室培育基地主任,蛋白质化学及鱼类发育生物学教育部重点实验室主任,教育部“多倍体鱼繁殖及育种”工程研究中心主任,湖南省“生物发育工程及新产品研发协同创新中心”主任,湖南省生物研究所所长兼湖南师大生科院副院长。

远缘杂交是指种间、属间乃至亲缘关系更远的生物类型个体之间的杂交。远缘杂交可以使不同物种的基因组组合在一起, 导致杂交后代的表现型和基因型都发生改变。通过远缘杂交形成遗传变异且两性可育的品系,在生物演化和鱼类遗传育种方面具有重要意义。自然界中为什么会存在形形色色的32000种鱼类?他们的形成是否与杂交和多倍体化有关?这是值得研究的科学问题。远缘杂交品系的创建将提供遗传背景清楚的有利于研究品系世代遗传变异特性和生殖发育特性的模型。在遗传育种方面,利用远缘杂交形成的四倍体鱼和二倍体鱼品系可用来大规模制备优良的三倍体鱼和二倍体鱼。
刘少军教授领导的研究团队长期以来对远缘杂交鱼和多倍体鱼进行了系统研究,在远缘杂交的基础理论和应用方面做出了系统的工作。该研究团队在个体、组织、细胞及分子水平对不同倍性鱼的主要生物学特征开展了系统的研究工作,在远缘杂交形成不同倍性鱼的遗传规律和繁殖发育规律的探索方面,做出了有特色的成绩。在远缘杂交的遗传规律研究方面,发现鱼类远缘杂交可以形成异源四倍体鱼品系、同源四倍体鱼品系、异源二倍体鱼品系和天然雌核发育品系;证明远缘杂交组合中,当双亲的染色体数目不呈倍性关系时,母本的染色体数目大于或等于父本的染色体数目时,容易获得存活后代,其中当双亲染色体数目相等时可形成异源四倍体鱼品系,当双亲染色体数目不相等时,可形成具有遗传变异的同源四倍体鱼品系;形成了利用FISH等染色体检测技术研究不同倍性鱼染色体特性的技术平台;发现了远缘杂交品系中存在基因缺失、基因插入、基因重组等基因变异的重要生物学现象。在远缘杂交的繁殖发育规律研究方面,他们发现了远缘杂交鱼产生不减数配子的重要现象;证明了三倍体鱼的不育性和四倍体鱼的可育性。
刘少军教授主持成功研制了改良异源四倍体鲫鲤品系、新型四倍体鲫鲂和同源四倍体鱼品系,二倍体鲂鲌品系和鲌鲂品系,鲂鲴品系,鲤鲫品系,天然雌核发育红鲫品系等改良和新型鱼类;利用雌核发育技术制备了11种人工雌核发育鱼类;利用雄核发育技术,研制了雄核发育二倍体鱼(包括YY超雄鱼);形成了具有应用价值的湘云鲫2号、杂交翘嘴鲂(又名翘嘴鳊)、鳊鲴杂交鱼、合方鲫等优良鱼类,其中湘云鲫2号、鳊鲴杂交鱼和杂交翘嘴鲂3个新品种获得农业部水产新品种证书;用倍间交配方法大规模研制的具有不育、体型美观、肉质鲜嫩、抗逆性强、生长速度快、小刺少等优点的优良三倍体鱼在全国推广养殖,产生了显著的经济、社会和生态效益。
