向左甫，中南林业科技大学生命科学与技术学院教授、博士生导师。《兽类学报》编委。2006年3月在中国科学院昆明动物研究所获得博士学位，2007至2010年在中国科学院动物研究所从事博士后研究。2008年在维也纳大学行为学系从事博士后研究，2013-2014年在剑桥大学动物学系访学。
从2002年开始先后在在西藏、云南、贵州、四川和湖北相关保护区从事我国滇金丝猴、黔金丝猴、川金丝猴和怒江金丝猴生态学研究，是唯一在野外开展过四种金丝猴生态与行为学研究的****。首次发现并报道滇金丝猴雄性杀婴、雄婴照料，黔金丝猴“搜寻隐蔽食物”，川金丝猴雄性联盟、雌性异亲哺乳等行为。相关成果以第一作者(通讯作者) 发表在Science Advance、Science Bulletin (科学通报)、Biological Conservation、Amercian Journal Primatology、International Journal Primatology、Oryx 等杂志。
主持国家自然科学基金、国家林业与草原局等项目20余项。在国内外学术期刊发表论文80篇，其中SCI源刊论文70多篇（第一或通讯作者论文35篇），参编专著1部。湖南省自然科学二、三等奖各1项。
