　　提出并建立了氧化物氧-17高精度测量技术与方法，开创性地将这一独特的稳定同位素参数应用于地质学、大气科学和环境科学，并取得了一系列创新性进展。近年来，领导的团队奠定了利用稳定同位素非质量分馏信号研究重大地质事件、地球环境变化等科学问题的国际地位，在权威SCI期刊上发表论文40余篇，其中以第一作者发表Nature论文4篇、Science论文2篇。

　　近五年在以下四个方面做出突出的成绩：

　　1. 重建了元古代大气圈CO₂-O₂ 浓度的大尺度演变历史。发现了原生硫酸盐矿物中存在巨大的氧-17负异常，这一特征只在陨石中出现过。这一发现为元古代的“雪球地球”假说提供了最具说服力的证据，其成果发表在Nature和Science上，开创了研究古大气环境（比如pCO2、pO2 和生物演变）的新方法和新领域。

　　2. 发现了火山喷发或生物及人类活动所产生的含硫气体的大规模氧化现象。大规模硫释放事件可以引发“干雾”，根据大量多维同位素数据，重建了地质记录中火山硫喷发事件以及硫氧化事件，成果发表在Nature上，为研究与生物大灭绝事件有关的火山事件提供了一个全新的思路与方法。（该成果荣获美国环保总署2011年度科学技术成就奖）。

　　3. 研究了硫酸根离子的微生物还原和生物反硝化、硝化作用过程。使用独特的基于氧的三维同位素方法，揭示了大气圈氧气保存在含氧阴离子中的过程和途径，提出了全新的硫化物氧化的分子机理，为研究地球历史中的碳、氮、硫循环提供了新的手段。

　　4. 从氧-17角度创新性地研究了地球极端干旱地带的大气沉降物，提出了干旱地带地表盐（SO42-、NO3-和ClO4-）起源于大气沉降物，确证了微小的大气气溶胶能够累积成巨厚的岩层。提出了利用类似地区的地表盐来研究地球或火星的气候状况及演化，为古气候及火星研究开辟了一个崭新的方向，被认为是该领域开创性工作，被后续几乎所有文章引用。
