Prof. Madhava Meegaskumbura is a teacher in the College of Forestry and studies evolution, ecology and development in tree-frogs and cave fish. He obtained his Ph.D. in Biology from Boston University USA, working on the diversification of nearly 100 species of frogs from Sri Lanka that he pioneered in discovering. He was a Ziff Environmental Postdoctoral Fellow at Harvard University Center for the Environment (HUCE), studying correlates of amphibian extinctions. He was then a Professor in the University or Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. He has published about 70 papers in SCI-journals, including three in SCIENCE. He has described more than 50 species including frogs, freshwater fish and a small mammal. Among the notables of his awards are Frank A. Belamarich Award for Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Work (Dept. of Biology, Boston University), Top 10 Species Award (Global), and several Presidential Awards for Research. He currently supervise a Postdoctoral Researcher, 5 Ph.D. students and 3 M.Sc. students.He as expertise in teaching advanced topics in easily understandable English language to non-English speaking students.
