Introduction:
The early recruitment scheme for graduate studies starting in 2014 at The Department of Computer Science at HKU (HKU CS) now invites applications from top-ranked undergraduate students and outstanding research-based master students at premier universities in mainland China.
The University of Hong Kong, founded in 1912, is a top English-speaking university with strong dedication to excellence in teaching and research. The faculty members of HKU CS include many internationally renowned scholars in diverse fields of Computer Science, such as Algorithms, Bioinformatics, Computer Forensic,Computer Vision and Graphics, Database and Data Mining, Network, Systems, and Software Engineering. Recently, HKU CS has been ranked No. 10 in 2013 QS University Subject Rankings in Engineering and Technology.

Details:
1. Your application should include a CV in English, an optional research proposal, and other supporting documents, such as transcripts, class ranking, proof of English proficiency, and certificates of academic achievements, all preferably in English. The official TOEFL or IELTS score is not needed at this stage. Please indicate three research areas of interest in a prioritized order in your application.Once your application is well received, we willsend youan ID of six digitsin threeworking days .Pleaseinclude this ID to your future communication with us.
Note: The research proposalis optional and will be used for assessing your understanding of or researchability in your research area. It may contain your research ideas and plans pertaining to some specific problems, or survey or analysis of some selected research papers. You are thereforeencouraged to indicate three areas of interest, and contact the professors at HKU CS in your area of interest for help in preparing this proposal. For example, you could base your proposal on reading research papers recommended by the professor.
2. Short-listed applicants will be interviewed by earlyJune, 2013, or as soon as possible thereafter. Offers will be made to successful applicants soon after the interviews. The expected date of admission to HKU isSeptember 2014.
3. Selection criteria include mainly academic records, research ability and potential, communication skills, and English proficiency.
4. All successful applicants will be provided a studentship of about HK$163,200 annually during the period of study (4 years for Ph.D. study and 2 years for M.Phil. study). Outstanding candidates may also apply for the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship (http://www.ugc.edu.hk/chs/chs_rgc/hkphd/hkphd.htm), which providesfinancial support of HK$240,000 per year for Ph.D. study.
