教育经历1963年毕业于台湾大学化学系，
1967年获美国芝加哥大学哲学博士学位。
工作经历先后在美国纽约大学，布鲁克海汶国家实验室，德国卡尔斯鲁大学进行博士后研究。
1972年回国，在中国科学院福建物质结构研究所工作。1995年调入中山大学。?
康北笙教授曾任福建省人民代表大会常务委员会副主任（六，七届）。
全国政协委员（五届），全国青年联合会五届委员。
福建省科协二，三，四届副主席，中国科协四届委员会委员。
中国化学会理事，中国科学院福建物质结构研究所研究员。

科研方向近年来开展低维和三维功能超分子化合物和分子聚集体的研究，包括合成，结构，谱学及物理化学性质如光，电，磁等性质。
科研项目曾主持或主要参加十多项包括国家攀登、国家自然科学基金重大、重点、面上、科学院“七五”、“八五”重大、以及国家重点实验室、省自然科学基金，博士点基金等项目。
发表学术论文300余篇，参与三本国内外出版专著的编写。

RESEARCH INTEREST
Syntheses, structures and physico-chemical properties of transition metal coordination complexes, cluster compounds, and supramolecular complexes, including crystal structural, spectroscopical, electrochemical, and magnetic investigations. Structural regularities are studied, cluster formation mechanisms are interpreted, and crystal engineering processes are investigated via unit construction processes of simple structural units (building blocks)----mononuclear stable or metastable complexes or intermediates.
