本实验室以多种长臂猿、叶猴和水獭为主要研究对象，结合3S技术、营养生态学、保护生物学和行为生态学的理论和研究方法，重点在以下领域开展工作。
灵长类群体大小和婚配制度的进化
为了适应环境，灵长类动物进化出丰富多样的社会组织和婚配制度。例如，猩猩（雌性独立育幼）通常单独生活；长臂猿主要生活在一夫一妻制家庭群中；金丝猴则生活在由多个一雄多雌繁殖单元和全雄单元组成的重层社会中。解释这种多样性是行为生态学研究领域的核心问题。本课题组结合野外行为观察、GPS项圈跟踪、营养分析和宏基因组等方法，从食物斑块的特点、食物选择和竞争、消化能力、社会行为、繁殖成功率等多个方面探讨长臂猿一夫二妻群和超大群叶猴的形成原因和稳定机制。
高等脊椎动物复杂信号的功能和进化
通讯行为无处不在，是动物维持自身生存和繁衍的基础。本课题组围绕灵长类和鸟类的视觉通讯和声音通讯开展长期的工作，通过野外观察、回放实验和大数据分析，试图破译各种复杂信号所携带的信息，验证其功能，并探讨其进化。
濒危野生动物保护
随着地球人口的不断增加，人类对地球的影响越来越大，很多生物类群面临灭绝。生物多样性保护已经成为全人类共同面临的难题。本课题组以长臂猿（森林生态系统旗舰物种）和水獭（淡水河流湖泊生态系统旗舰物种）为主要的研究对象，希望忠实记录这些濒危物种的分布和种群动态变化（document the pattern），深入了解各种致危因素和濒危机制（understand the mechanism），科学评估各种保护措施的有效性（evaluate the effectiveness），通过有效的科学研究和保护实践让长臂猿和水獭在中国拥有一个光明的未来。
本实验招聘保护遗传学、肠道微生物、保护区有效性评估等方向的博后。基本工资年薪20万（税前），实验室根据工作成绩提供额外奖励。学校提供校内博士后公寓。子女可安排附属幼儿园入学。协助申请广东省各类博士后人才项目，工资可有较大幅度上涨。博士后在站期限为3年，因项目进展需要可申请至4年。优秀者在聘期结束后可直接应聘学校副教授位置。有意者请将详细简历（包括学历、研究方向、发表文章等）通过电子邮件发至：fanpf@mail.sysu.edu.cn，实验室报销面试差旅费。

现为中国动物学会兽类学分会理事、动物行为学分会理事、灵长类学会理事。2009年获得“优秀青年动物生态学工作者”称号，American Journal of Primatology, International Journal of Primatology, Zoological Research等刊物编委。
1. 命名了白颊猕猴和天行长臂猿
2. 在不投食的情况下习惯化了多种灵长类，对无量山西黑冠长臂猿和印支灰叶猴，高黎贡山天行长臂猿和广西邦亮保护区的东黑冠长臂猿进行了深入系统的研究，详细阐明了这些物种对森林季节性变化的行为适应机制。
3. 通过对比研究，提出一夫二妻是一种稳定的长臂猿配偶制，并通过食物竞争、社会行为和繁殖成功率对这一配偶制的稳定机制进行了探索。
4. 对我国的6种长臂猿都进行了系统的调查，为我国长臂猿的保护作出了积极贡献。
