研究方向海洋与海岸带综合管理理论与实证研究，着重于综合管理规划与技术在海洋与海岸带可持续发展中的应用，致力于海洋与海岸带可持续发展的能力建设。
The theoretical and empirical study of integrated coastal and ocean management, specifically focusing on the application of integrated management planning and technologies, as well as the capacity building for a sustainable ocean and coastal development.

科研课题从事海岸带可持续发展中的海洋开发规划与管理、海洋与海岸带综合管理等研究工作20余年，主持总额三千多万元的国际国内科研课题，含UNDP、UNEP、CIDA、GEF等国际项目和国家基金、中国—东盟海上合作基金、福建省基金、中国海洋发展基金会基金等国内研究项目。
Prof. Xue has been engaged in the research of sustainable coastal development for more than 20 years, especially on marine development planning and management, integrated ocean and coastal management, etc. He has led various international projects funded by UNDP, UNEP, CIDA, GEF, etc., and also numbers of domestic projects funded by National Natural Science Foundation, China-ASEAN Maritime Cooperation Fund, Fujian Provincial Natural Science Foundation, China Oceanic Development Fund, etc. The total research fund has amounted to more than 30 million RMB.
荣誉奖励曾获教育部科技进步奖、厦门市科学技术进步奖、厦门大学南强（集体）奖一等奖、厦门大学"中国建设银行奖（科研奖）"等奖项。
