Dr.JohnGongisAssociateProfessorofeconomicsattheUniversityofInternationalBusinessandEconomics(UIBE),whereheteachesandresearchesinareasofmicroeconomics,industrialorganization,antitrustandregulatoryeconomicsandinternationaltrade.Dr.Gongisaprolificresearcherandwriterwithalonglistofpublicationsinleadinginternationalacademicjournalsofbotheconomicsandelectricengineeringfields,aswellChineselanguagejournalsandmagazines.HeistheexecutiveeditoroftheJournalofChineseEconomicandForeignTradeStudies(JCEFTS)publishedinUK.Heisalsoaregularop-edcolumnistforseveralleadingEnglishnewspapersinAsia,includingSouthChinaMorningPost,GlobalTimes,andShanghaiDaily,writingextensivelyoneconomicalandpoliticalissues.

Dr.GongisoneoftherecognizedantitrustauthoritiesinChina,serveingasanacademicaffiliatewithCompetitionEconomicsLLC,aleadingglobaleconomicsconsultingfirmbasedinEmeryville,California.HealsoservesasanexpertconsultantwiththeMinistryofCommerce’s(MOFCOM)AntitrustBureau,andactedasthechiefarchitectoftheBureau’snationalcompetitiondatabase.HehasbeenregularlyhireedbytheBureautohelpexamineantitrustreviewsofhighprofilemultinationalmergerapplicationsfiledsimultaneouslywiththeUS,EUandChinacompetitionauthorities.

PriortojoiningUIBEin2009,Dr.GongwasSeniorAdvisorofStrategicAsssessmentattheCableTelevisionLaboratoriesInc.(CableLabs)inLouisville,Colorado,wherehewaspartofCableLabs’CEOlevelconsultingpracticesforthecabletelevisionindustry.Beforethat,hewasaResearchScientistatBellCommunicationsResearch’sAppliedResearchLabfor7years,wherehehadbeeninvolvedinvariouspublicpolicyresearchactivitiesintelephony,wirelessandInternetareas.Dr.GongplayedanimportantcontributingroleinUSex-VicePresidentAlGore’sNationalInformationalInfrastructure(NII)project.
