Based on displacement hypothesis and the Diathesis-Stress model, we developed a model to examine the influences of mother phubbing (Mphubbing) on adolescents. The model was test with 2996 participants from a high school in China. Regression results revealed that Mphubbing was positively related to adolescent academic burnout, which was mediated by mental health. Results also showed that agreeableness moderated the link between Mphubbing and adolescent mental health, and neuroticism aggravated the influence of mental health on adolescent academic burnout. The indirect effect of Mphubbing on academic burnout via mental health was moderated by agreeableness and neuroticism. This study highlighted the interaction of stressors and diathesis according to the Diathesis-Stress model. We also discussed the theoretical and practical contributions of the present study and offered implications for future research and practice. ...Hide
