金李是北京大学光华管理学院讲席教授，博导，北京大学国家金融研究中心主任，北京大学管理案例研究中心主任。曾任哈佛商学院金融教授兼哈佛大学费正清东亚研究中心执行理事，现兼任牛津大学商学院金融教授（终身教职正教授兼博导），牛津大学中国中心研究员。他同时担任“北大-牛津-哈佛/麻省理工-领导与变革：华人家族企业全球课程”的创始联席主任。他是国际知名的公司治理问题专家，全球公司治理协会（GCGC）理事会和学术委员会成员，中国区代表。他曾经担任国内外多家上市公司和非上市公司，基金管理公司和大型国企集团的独立董事或外部董事（根据国家有关高校领导干部兼职的规定已经辞去职务），并且在多家国内外学术以及实务机构担任高级顾问或理事。

金李在哈佛商学院，牛津和北大给MBA，EMBA，本科和研究生讲授资本市场，公司财务和公司治理课程。研究领域包括国际投融资，风险创投和私募股权，对冲基金，财富管理，家族企业治理与传承，国内以及跨境并购，资本运作等等。作为会议议程主席、组委会成员或嘉宾，参与各种高级别国际会议。研究成果发表于顶级国际学术期刊，并荣获多项国际著名大奖。先后主持以中国企业为研究对象的哈佛牛津和北大案例研究近二十例，在国际各大商学院广泛使用。他对中国的经济和金融问题的研究受到国际主流媒体关注，曾在华尔街日报及金融时报发表多篇关于中国经济金融问题的社评，并多次接受英美国家级媒体专访。

金李从教二十多年来，学生遍布海内外。在欧美最高学府哈佛和牛津教授过的学生数以千计，遍布各国际组织、世界各国政府、金融机构和其他各大公司。他曾任“哈佛-清华私募股权和风险创投项目”的美方联席主席，“哈佛－北大企业全球化金融战略”的中方联席主席，并曾在清华、人大、复旦、浙大、中山、长江和中欧等国内商学院为数以千计的中国的资深企业家讲授金融课程。
