1978年至1982年,华中工学院(现名华中科技大学)电厂热能动力专业本科生;
1982年至1985年,华中工学院锅炉燃烧技术专业硕士生;
1985年至1989年,北京大学流体力学专业博士生;
1989年至1991年,中国工程科学院力学研究所博士后,出站晋升副研究员;
1991年至1993年,北京航空航天大学航空发动机专业博士后,出站晋升教授;
1993年至1996年,美国匹兹堡大学机械系、香港大学环境工程研究所访问教授;
1996年起,北京大学环境科学中心和力学系教授、(1998年起)博士生导师。

气候变化热力学、可再生能源的热力学分析、生物质燃料的热力学分析、温室气体清单分析与减排策略、水资源系统模拟、系统能值分析方法、城市生态学、湿地系统生态学、湿地水力学、环境热力学、环境哲学、理论环境学、生态经济学、产业生态学、系统生态学、流体力学、工程流体力学、高等计算流体力学、环境流体力学、弥散过程原理等。
